How do you all like to take notes when reading?

How do you prefer to take notes while reading? Do you highlight directly in the book, or do you use a separate notebook or document to gather quotes? Do you find it easier to refer back to that document instead of flipping through the entire book when writing essays?

  1. I like to combine a few different methods when taking notes while reading. I often highlight key passages in the book itself, especially when it’s a text that I know I’ll refer back to frequently. This helps me quickly locate important information later on.

In addition to highlighting, I maintain a separate notebook (or a digital document) where I’ll jot down quotes and my thoughts as I read. This allows me to synthesize the information and keep it organized by themes or topics. I find that writing it down helps reinforce my understanding and makes it easier to reference when I’m writing essays.

When it comes to writing, I usually go back to my document first for quotes and ideas, which saves time and helps me avoid flipping through the whole book. This combination keeps my notes structured while still allowing me to engage directly with the text. How about you?
