How to stay away from home?

Looking for Summer Housing Options in New York

Hi everyone! I’m reaching out for some advice on how to spend my summer break in New York. Unfortunately, I can’t go back home due to some personal issues, and I’ve found summer classes at my college to be extremely pricey. I’m really looking for alternatives but I’m feeling a bit lost. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Just to give you some context, I’m a freshman who has been living in the dorms all year. I have a job here and was planning to move into an apartment with my roommate after sophomore year. Thank you in advance for any help!

  1. It sounds like you’re in a tough situation, but there are definitely options to explore. Here are a few ideas to consider for staying in New York over the summer without breaking the bank:

    1. Summer Sublet: Look for summer sublet opportunities. Many students rent out their apartments while they’re away, and you might be able to find an affordable short-term lease. Check websites like Craigslist, Facebook groups for your college, or specific sublet sites like SpareRoom.

    2. Roommates: Since you’re planning to move in with a roommate later, see if they would want to sublet or share a place for the summer. Splitting rent could make it more manageable.

    3. On-Campus Housing: Check if your college offers any housing during the summer. This could be more affordable than a private apartment, and you’ll still be close to campus.

    4. Stay with Friends: If you have friends in the area, see if you could crash on their couch or in an extra room for a few weeks. It could be a fun way to stay connected too!

    5. Work Opportunities: Since you have a job, look into whether your workplace has any temporary housing options or if they could assist with finding affordable places to stay.

    6. Community Resources: Research local community organizations or resources that assist students in need. They might be able to provide guidance or even housing support.

    7. Summer Programs: Look into internships or volunteer programs that provide housing as part of their offer. This can be a way to gain experience while securing a place to stay.

It’s great that you’re being proactive about finding a solution! Good luck, and I hope you find a suitable option!
