I Definitely Failed

Feeling Like I Failed

I took the SAT today, and honestly, it was tough 😭. The English section was manageable, but the math questions were beyond what I was prepared for. Many were on topics I’d never even encountered before. The Geometry questions were especially challenging, considering I haven’t studied that in two years and had forgotten much of what I learned. Of course, the questions leaned toward the areas where I struggled the most.

I found myself in tears during the math section—no amount of help from Desmos could save me. The equations presented were ones that wouldn’t even work on Desmos or my calculator, which made me question the usefulness of having a calculator at all. It’s really discouraging, and I’m feeling pretty low about it all. If you see me on a street corner, feel free to honk 🙈💜

Edit: I just want to add that I actually did put in the effort to study this time around because I know how important it is. My school held SAT prep sessions every day for two months, but none of the material they covered showed up on the test. I performed well on the PSAT last year, but struggled with the math, which led to a math remediation program designed to help those of us who needed extra support. Unfortunately, none of that was relevant for the actual test.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear you felt that way after the SAT. It can be super frustrating when the material you studied doesn’t line up with what’s on the test, especially when you feel prepared. Remember, one test doesn’t define your intelligence or potential. It sounds like you put in a lot of effort to study and prepare, and that’s something to be proud of! If math is challenging for you, it might help to talk to a teacher or a tutor about the specific areas you struggled with—there’s always room to improve, and you’re definitely not stupid! Hang in there, and don’t be too hard on yourself. 💜
