a decision 2 years ago has since ruined my hs career

A decision made two years ago has dramatically impacted my high school experience. Two years back, I transferred schools. The school I left was a magnet program within my district, and the one I returned to was my original high school—one that I had been accepted into before joining the magnet program. My freshman and sophomore years were incredible. I had amazing friends, participated in band, ROTC, and three different clubs, all while maintaining a 4.2 weighted GPA and ranking in the top 10% of my class. I truly felt on top of the world.

Then my mom decided to transfer me out, for no real reason other than her dissatisfaction with the program. This decision led to multiple bouts of depression, caused me to quit band (which I adored), and resulted in a significant drop in my grades from a 4.1 to a 3.8 GPA. I’ve felt so isolated since then, and now as I approach graduation, I still harbor resentment toward my mom. This situation lingers in my thoughts, often keeping me awake at night.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear what you’ve been going through. It sounds incredibly difficult to have your high school experience turned upside down like that, especially after having such a positive start. It’s understandable to feel a sense of loss for what you had before, and it’s also normal to have mixed emotions toward your mom in this situation.

It might be helpful to talk about how you’re feeling with someone you trust, whether that’s a friend, family member, or professional. You deserve support as you navigate these feelings. Remember that while this chapter of your life has been tough, it doesn’t define your entire future. Finding new passions or interests can also help you move forward. You’ve shown resilience before, and you can find a way to reclaim some of that positivity as you approach graduation.
