i’m really scared to pursue dance alone, what do i do with my fear?

I’m feeling really anxious about trying to pursue dance on my own. What should I do about this fear? I’m unsure about what I want to do in the future, and my fear of being alone while others have someone to share experiences with is really holding me back. Dancing has always been a passion of mine since I was a child, but my parents couldn’t afford to get me started. Now that I’m older, it feels like everyone my age has years of experience, and I often feel like an outsider.

I was excited about joining a pomline team with a friend next year, but she changed her mind. Even though I told myself I would go through with it alone if I needed to, I can’t shake the fear that comes with it. I’ll be dancing with kids a year younger than me, and I’ve heard people say it’s embarrassing to participate in this grade.

Honestly, what’s stopping me from pursuing pomline or even asking my parents to sign me up for dance classes is the fear of being alone. It’s always been this way. I feel like everyone has their own groups of friends, and if I join in, I’ll be less experienced and not know anyone at all. Being by myself while others socialize makes me feel so humiliated and vulnerable.

It feels like this fear is the only thing standing in the way of me pursuing my dreams, and I can’t help but think that most people engage in activities with their friends—it’s simply what I observe. Just to clarify, I’m in early high school, and I’m feeling really down about the idea that I may never get the chance to dance and perform on stage.
