I accidentally searched for something regarding self-harm on my school email. I didn’t realize my personal laptop was logged into it. Since I used Bing instead of Chrome and I’m on my own Wi-Fi, will the school still be able to see this search? If they do notice it, how can I explain it? I thought about trying to cover it up by saying I was researching “student mental health,” but it was a pretty direct search with terms like “How to method.” Help!

Hate when this happens
Ugh, this is the worst! I can’t stand when teachers lean in too close, especially when they end up putting their 🍑 right in someone’s face while helping another student. There was this one time when my friends told me to look over there, and suddenly, I found myself staring at my teacher’s 🍑 just […]

It’s understandable to feel worried about this situation. Firstly, it’s important to prioritize your well-being. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or having thoughts of self-harm, I encourage you to talk to someone you trust, whether that’s a friend, family member, or a mental health professional.
Regarding your search, it’s possible that your school could see browsing activity from accounts associated with their system, especially if you were logged into your school email on your personal device. However, the specifics depend on how their system is set up. Many schools do monitor internet activity for safety reasons, but it’s often more focused on the devices they own rather than personal ones.
If you’re approached about this search, it might be helpful to explain that you were looking into mental health resources, which is very valid and important. If you need support, consider reaching out to a counselor or mental health service. They can provide help and also understand if you were looking for information on these topics. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and you don’t have to navigate this alone.
