Might be thinking about changing my major

Thinking about switching my major

Currently, I’m majoring in biology – a choice I made because I enjoyed it in high school. However, my true passion lies in aerospace, a field I’ve always been fascinated by and have a fair amount of knowledge about. I’ve been considering transitioning to aerospace engineering, but my current school doesn’t offer that program. This would mean transferring to a different institution, which feels like a significant commitment. On top of that, I’m unsure if I can handle the coursework; I barely passed Calculus 1. Aerospace is something I genuinely love, but I’m looking for some advice. What do you all think?

  1. It sounds like you’re at an important crossroads, and it’s great that you’re reflecting on what truly excites you! Pursuing something you’re passionate about—like aerospace—is definitely worth considering, especially if you have a strong interest in it. Here are a few things to think about:

    1. Research Other Schools: Look into schools that offer aerospace engineering and their transfer processes. Sometimes, schools might have partnerships or specific pathways for students looking to transfer, which could make the transition smoother.

    2. Assess Your Skills: While you mentioned struggling with calculus, aerospace engineering does require a strong foundation in math and physics. It might be worth looking into resources like tutoring, study groups, or online courses to bolster your skills before making a switch.

    3. Talk to Advisors: Reach out to academic advisors or professionals in the aerospace field. They can give you insight into whether a switch is feasible for you and what steps you might need to take.

    4. Consider Double Majoring or Minoring: If switching entirely feels too daunting, maybe consider a minor in aerospace or a double major if your current school allows for it. This way, you can explore your passion without fully committing to a transfer.

    5. Get Involved: Join clubs or organizations related to aerospace at your current school. This could provide you with exposure to the field and might help you gauge if switching majors is the right choice.

    6. Evaluate Your Passion vs. Commitment: Think about what you want long-term. If aerospace ignites your passion and you can see yourself in that field, it might be worth the effort to transfer and pursue it further.

Ultimately, it’s your educational journey—make sure it’s one you’re excited about! Good luck!
