My weird sleeping habits as a student

My Quirky Sleep Patterns as a Student

Can anyone else relate to this?

I often get super excited about getting a good night’s sleep. I’ll hit the hay early, stick to good sleep practices, and enjoy a solid deep sleep, waking up feeling refreshed. But then, after I prep breakfast and start my day, the drowsiness creeps back in. If I don’t have anything pressing, I find myself nodding off again for a couple more hours.

I might wake up at 7:00, all set for a productive day. I whip up breakfast, brush my teeth, do some pushups, and then remember my first obligation isn’t until 10:00. I think, “I’ve had 8 hours—just a quick nap won’t hurt,” but then I end up dozing off for an additional 3-4 hours, waking up groggy and disoriented at noon, drenched in sweat.

I know this isn’t the best habit, but I’m not sure how to change it. If I skip that morning nap, I still feel drowsy later on. Shouldn’t 8 hours be sufficient sleep?

  1. I can definitely relate to that! It’s funny how a good night’s sleep can sometimes lead to unexpected nap attacks in the morning. It sounds like your body might just enjoy the extra rest, especially if you feel like you need it after waking up.

One thing to consider is the quality of your sleep. Even if you’re getting 8 hours, if your sleep isn’t deep or restorative, you might not feel fully refreshed, which could explain the mid-morning slump. You might also want to experiment with your bedtime routine or adjust your wake-up time a bit to see if that changes how you feel when you first get up.

Another idea could be to introduce some light activity after breakfast, like a short walk or some stretching, to help boost your energy levels and shake off that sleepy haze before your first commitment. Maybe even setting a limit on how long you let yourself nap could help too, so you don’t fall into a longer sleep cycle accidentally.

Ultimately, it takes some experimentation to find what works best for you. Just remember, it’s all about finding that balance between getting enough rest and staying alert during the day!
