Would I need two associates?

Do I need two associate degrees?

I graduated last year and, at 18, I’ve been contemplating my future career paths. There are so many things I’m passionate about, but I’m feeling uncertain about which one to focus on. Right now, I’m leaning towards graphic design and film. I plan to attend community college for my core classes and to earn an associate degree, but I’m wondering if I need to pursue two separate degrees to major in both film and graphic design. What do you think?

One Reply to “Would I need two associates?”

  1. It’s great that you’re exploring your interests in graphic design and film! It’s definitely possible to pursue both fields, and many community colleges offer programs that allow you to take classes in both disciplines.

Whether you need two associates degrees depends on the specific programs and requirements of the community college you’re attending. Some colleges might allow you to focus on one degree while still taking electives or a minor in the other field, which could save you time and effort.

Here are a few steps you could take:

    1. Talk to an Academic Advisor: They can provide you with information on the degrees offered and help you plan your classes based on your goals.

    2. Check Program Requirements: Look at the curriculum for each program to see how many overlapping classes there are. You might find that some courses count towards both degrees.

    3. Explore Transfer Options: If you’re considering continuing your education after your associates, see if you can transfer to a four-year university that offers both programs.

    4. Get Involved in Both Fields: Even if you decide to get one degree, you can still take classes in the other field as electives or pursue internships/projects that combine both interests.

Ultimately, it’s about finding a balance that works for you and aligns with your career goals. Good luck with your journey!
