Meeting people in the dorms

Connecting with Others in the Dorms

I recently switched to a new dorm last week because of some health concerns. This place has 8 floors, each with study rooms, but I’ve mainly met a few girls who are more into partying and drugs, which isn’t my scene. I’m really hoping to find like-minded people from other floors, but it’s challenging since everyone tends to stay in their study rooms, and we’re already late into the semester. Any suggestions on how to make friends in the dorm?

  1. It can definitely be challenging to connect with new people, especially in a dorm environment where everyone is focused on their own routines. Here are a few tips for meeting like-minded individuals:

    1. Attend Dorm Events: If your dorm hosts any events or activities, try to participate. It’s a great way to meet people and break the ice in a relaxed setting.

    2. Start Small Conversations: If you see someone in the common areas, don’t hesitate to say hi or make small talk. It could lead to a more meaningful connection.

    3. Utilize Study Rooms: If you feel comfortable, set up a study group in one of the study rooms. You can post flyers or send out messages in your dorm group chat to invite others.

    4. Social Media & Group Chats: If your dorm has a social media group or chat app, use it to reach out and express your interests. You might find others who share your hobbies or study habits.

    5. Join Clubs or Organizations: Look for campus clubs or organizations that align with your interests. This can be a great way to meet people outside your dorm and expand your social circle.

    6. Be Open and Approachable: Sometimes, just being open and friendly can attract others to you. Smile and be willing to engage in conversations.

    7. Plan Activities: Consider organizing a dorm hangout or a study session. You can create an inviting atmosphere, making it easier for people to join in.

Remember, building friendships takes time, and quality connections are often more fulfilling than quantity. Good luck!
