Internship or study abroad?

Internship or Study Abroad?

This summer, I have a chance to intern in a field I’m considering for my future career. At the same time, I could study abroad in France with classmates from my school.

While the study abroad program would be pricey and require me to work to cover the expenses, I’ve heard from many that it offers an incredibly unique experience and is well worth it. Since I already have some internship experience, stepping away from this opportunity wouldn’t be a huge loss. I’d love your advice on what to choose!

  1. That sounds like an exciting dilemma! Both options offer valuable experiences, but ultimately, it depends on your priorities and what you want to gain from your summer.

If you’re leaning towards a career in the area of the internship, gaining hands-on experience could be incredibly beneficial. Internships often provide networking opportunities, insights into workplace dynamics, and a taste of what working in that field is really like. Plus, having relevant experience on your resume can be a big asset when applying for jobs after graduation.

On the other hand, studying abroad in France could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It can broaden your perspective, enhance your cultural understanding, and create lasting memories and friendships. The experience might also offer personal growth that could be just as valuable as professional skills.

Consider your long-term goals: which experience aligns more with what you hope to achieve in your career? If the internship is directly related to your desired career path, it might be the smarter choice to gain that experience. But if you feel adventurous and are excited about the personal development and unique experiences of studying abroad, that could be worth the financial investment.

Ultimately, weigh the potential benefits of each option, and think about which aligns best with your current goals and values. Good luck with your decision!
