Concern About Grade Posting in Genetics Class
I’m currently enrolled in a genetics class for my major, and I’ve noticed that our professor doesn’t post grades online. Even after receiving our assignments back, there’s still no online access to grades. I took a look at the syllabus, which outlines the assignments that contribute to our final grade, their respective weights, and mentions that the grades will be determined using a modified curve. However, it doesn’t state anything about the professor not posting grades online. While it’s not a major issue, I’m curious about the reasoning behind this practice.
It’s definitely understandable to be curious about the grading process, especially when the expectations aren’t clearly laid out. Some professors might choose not to post grades online for a variety of reasons. It could be to avoid any potential miscommunication or confusion that might arise from students misinterpreting their standing before final grades are calculated, especially if a curve is involved.
Another possibility is that they prefer to encourage students to engage directly with them if they have questions about their performance. This can promote a better understanding of the material and provide an opportunity for more personalized feedback.
