Best friend and notes

Title: Struggling with My Best Friend’s Habits

Hey everyone, I could use some advice. I (19M) have a best friend (21M) who is in the same college class as me. He tends to sleep during lectures, spends a lot of time flirting with girls, and never takes notes—even after I’ve asked him several times for his own sake. As we approach exams, he always asks me to send him my notes from the whole semester, and he’s doing the same again now.

I really don’t want to share my notes this time. I feel like it undermines all the hard work I’ve put in over the months, and I don’t want to compromise my integrity by just giving him what he needs. He’s being quite persuasive in our chats, though. What should I do?

  1. It sounds like you’re in a tough situation with your best friend, and it’s understandable that you’re feeling conflicted. Here are a few steps you might consider:

    1. Communicate Clearly: Have an honest conversation with your friend about how you feel. Let him know that you’ve put a lot of effort into your notes and that it doesn’t feel fair to you that he has not done the same.

    2. Set Boundaries: It’s important to set boundaries when it comes to your hard work. You might say something like, “I can’t just give you my notes because it doesn’t feel right given that I’ve worked hard for them.”

    3. Encourage Responsibility: Instead of sending your notes, you could offer to help him study or suggest that he seek help from others in the class. This way, he can still find support while also taking responsibility for his own learning.

    4. Stick to Your Decision: If you truly feel that sending your notes will compromise your integrity, stand your ground. It’s alright to say no, and a good friend should respect your decision.

Ultimately, it’s about finding a balance between being a good friend and taking care of your own academic integrity. Good luck!
