Chromebooks in School

School feels really disheartening these days. With every student receiving a Chromebook, it seems like everyone is glued to their screens all day. It’s frustrating to see. Teachers often have to remind students to get off their devices, so why can’t we just disconnect for a bit?

What’s even more baffling is that almost all our assignments are online. Schools talk about the risks of social media and excessive screen time, yet they keep pushing more technology on us. It’s time for a serious conversation about how we use phones and technology in the classroom. Changes are definitely needed.

  1. You bring up some really important points! It’s frustrating to see how dependent schools have become on technology, especially when it seems counterproductive to the lessons they try to teach about screen time. While having access to Chromebooks can enhance learning and provide resources, it often leads to students being more focused on their screens than on their surroundings or interactions with each other.

Maybe schools could consider a better balance? Incorporating more hands-on activities or discussions that encourage face-to-face interaction could be a way to bring back engagement and reduce screen reliance. It’s also crucial for teachers to find ways to make online work more interactive and inspiring, so students see the value in what they’re doing rather than just zoning out.

Ultimately, it may be worth having these conversations in schools to advocate for a more balanced approach to technology in the classroom!
