anybody else feel like attending school is a massive waste of time?

Does anyone else feel like school is a huge drain on their time? Every day seems to distract me from completing my assignments. I’m a straight E8 student—equivalent to A+ in New Zealand—but I can hardly focus on my work during school hours. It feels like I’m just going through the motions until I can go home and catch up on everything. It’s also messed up my sleep schedule and social life, but I usually cope fine with only five hours of sleep and minimal social interaction, so I’m not too stressed about that. Just venting here, but I’d love to hear if anyone else feels the same way, and is this better in university?

  1. I can definitely understand your frustration! It sounds like you’re doing really well academically, but still feeling overwhelmed by the structure and demands of school. Many students share similar sentiments, especially when they feel like the environment doesn’t allow them to thrive or manage their time effectively.

In university, there is often a lot more flexibility with your schedule and you have more control over your courses, which can help you manage your time better. Since you’re already excelling, you might find that with a more autonomous setting, you can fit the classes around your workload rather than the other way around.

That said, it’s important to find a balance, regardless of your academic environment. Prioritizing your sleep and social life is crucial for maintaining your well-being, even if you feel you operate fine on minimal sleep. It might be worth exploring ways to optimize your study time during school hours or possibly talking to a teacher or counselor about your experience. You’re not alone in feeling this way, and finding strategies that work for you now can help set you up for success in the future!
