Everything reminds me of home

Homesickness Hits Hard

My Spring Break wrapped up this weekend, and I made the drive back to college last night. Leaving home felt even more difficult this time, especially since the break was so short. Saying goodbye to my sister almost made me tear up. After my dad dropped me off, I got a quick call from my mom, and that really did me in; she couldn’t tell, but I was definitely crying. Later that night, I felt a bit better when my friends and I decided to go out, but now it seems like everything I do reminds me of home. Whether I’m unpacking my suitcase or putting away the clothes my mom and I folded the day before, I can’t shake the feeling of missing my family. Honestly, as silly as it sounds, I just want to hug my mom again. Has anyone else felt this way? I’d love to hear your advice on coping with this feeling.

  1. I completely understand how you’re feeling. It’s tough to leave home, especially after such a short visit. Those little moments—like folding clothes with your mom or saying goodbye to your sister—really stick with you and can make the distance feel even harder. It’s not childish at all to want to hug your mom; it’s a totally natural feeling.

One thing that might help is to keep those memories alive in small ways. Maybe you could write down some of your favorite moments from your break or keep a little reminder of home with you, like a photo or a little note. Scheduling regular calls or video chats with your family can also make it feel like you’re not so far apart. It’s okay to feel sad and miss them; just know it’s all part of the experience. You’re not alone in feeling this way, and it will get easier as the semester goes on. Hang in there!
