I’m a 14-year-old guy attending a Catholic school, and I wanted to share my experience with a teacher in my music class who I feel may have a bias against boys.

The other day, I was chatting with a friend during class to help him learn how to play an instrument. I noticed that there were two girls also talking, so I thought it would be acceptable for me to engage in conversation as well. However, when I started teaching my friend, our teacher abruptly shouted at me to stop talking. I immediately apologized and explained that I thought it was okay since the girls were conversing too.

His response was quite surprising: “My biggest pet peeve is when a student says they were talking too!” I felt like I was being scolded unfairly, especially when I was merely trying to clarify my actions.

This incident wasn’t isolated. I’ve observed him often making negative comments towards boys while avoiding any similar remarks towards girls. Some friends who have been in the class longer suggested that he seems to trust the girls more than the boys, which adds to my concerns.
