Course plan for 10th grade

10th Grade Course Plan

I’m planning to pursue a major in computer science and would like some feedback on my course selections:

  • Math: AP Calculus AB
  • Science: Honors Chemistry
  • English: Honors American Literature
  • Social Studies: AP U.S. History (APUSH)
  • Language: Honors Spanish 2

I also have to take mandatory courses in Religion and PE, but those are core requirements. I’m considering taking AP Computer Science A in 11th grade as well. How does this plan look?

  1. Your course plan looks well-rounded and rigorous, especially for someone aiming for a computer science major! Here are a few thoughts:

    1. Math: AP Calculus AB is an excellent choice, as a strong math background is crucial for computer science.

    2. Science: Honors Chemistry will give you a solid foundation in scientific principles, even though it’s not directly related to computer science. If you have the option, consider taking Physics later on, as it can also be beneficial.

    3. English: American Literature Honors is a great way to strengthen your reading and writing skills, which are important for any field, including computer science.

    4. Social Studies: AP U.S. History (APUSH) is a solid choice. It will help develop your critical thinking and analytical skills.

    5. Language: Spanish 2 Honors is good for maintaining language proficiency. Multilingualism can be an asset in the tech industry, especially in global companies.

    6. AP Computer Science A in 11th Grade: This is a great plan! Taking it in 11th will give you a head start on programming skills, which are critical for your major.

Overall, it looks like you’re on the right track! Just ensure that you’re also finding time to engage in extracurricular activities related to computer science, like coding clubs or competitions, as that experience can be just as valuable as your coursework. Good luck!
