Extra Class

Considering an Extra Class

I’ve been enrolled in two classes each term (10 weeks long) as I work towards my associate’s degree, all while balancing a full-time job. So far, I’ve been able to stay on top of my assignments, maintaining a 3.5 GPA. However, I struggle with time management since I often prioritize video games over my studies!

I typically dedicate one of my two days off work to catch up on all my assignments. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how to accelerate my degree completion. Would it be beneficial to take on an extra class to speed things up?

  1. It sounds like you’re doing an amazing job managing your classes and work! A 3.5 GPA while balancing all that is commendable. If you’re aiming to complete your degree faster, taking an extra class could definitely help you achieve that goal. However, since you mentioned having issues with time management—especially with video games being a distraction—you might want to consider a few things before deciding.

    1. Evaluate Your Capacity: Think about the current workload and whether you can realistically handle an extra class without it affecting your grades or your well-being. You might find that an additional class increases your stress level, which could lead to burnout.

    2. Time Management Strategies: If you decide to go for the extra class, consider setting specific gaming limits or creating a strict schedule that dedicates time for studying, work, and relaxation. This could help improve your time management and keep you on track.

    3. Seek Advice: Talk to an academic advisor or a mentor about your goals. They may offer insight or strategies that could help you manage your coursework effectively while still enjoying your hobbies.

    4. Start Slow: If you’re unsure about jumping into an extra class right away, consider taking one extra class next term as a trial. This way, you can assess how it impacts your workload and time management without fully committing long-term.

Ultimately, the right choice will depend on how confident you feel in managing an increased workload. Good luck, and remember that it’s important to maintain balance and take care of yourself along the way!
