Has anyone camped on their uni campus due to no accommodation?

Has anyone ever camped on their university campus because they couldn’t find accommodation? I’m only able to cover my food costs with a student pension, and I don’t have time for a job right now.

I need to stay on or very close to campus; otherwise, I won’t be able to manage my course effectively. I’m committed to making this work.

Has anyone tried camping or something similar? If not, what are some ways to get to campus without financial support? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. It’s definitely a tough situation, but you’re not alone in facing it. Some students have found creative solutions when it comes to housing during their time at university. Camping on campus might be an option, but you’ll want to check the university’s policies about that first—some places are strict about overnight stays without permission.

Here are a few other options to consider:

    1. Short-term housing: Look for temporary accommodations like hostels or shared rooms. They can sometimes be more affordable, especially if you can find a place close to campus.

    2. University resources: Reach out to your university’s student services or housing office. They may have resources for students in need of emergency housing or financial assistance.

    3. Subletting: Sometimes students sublet their rooms during breaks or when they go home. Keep an eye on campus boards or local online groups for these opportunities.

    4. Local community options: Consider looking into local community or church programs that might offer assistance to students in need of housing.

    5. Transportation: If you do end up further away from campus, research local public transport options or consider biking if it’s feasible. Some universities also have shuttle services that could help you get to and from campus more easily.

    6. Student groups: Look for student organizations or forums—it’s possible someone may be in a similar situation and can offer a roommate opportunity or practical advice.

It’s great that you’re committed to your studies, and there are often resources and people willing to help you through tough times. Hang in there, and don’t hesitate to reach out for support!
