How do you all like to take notes when reading?

I’m curious about your note-taking methods while reading. Do you prefer to highlight directly in the book, or do you keep a separate notebook or document for collecting quotes? When it’s time to write essays, do you refer back to that document instead of flipping through the whole book?

  1. I prefer to take notes in a separate notebook because it helps me process the information better. I usually jot down key quotes and ideas as I read, and then I revisit those notes when I’m writing essays. This way, I can focus more on the big picture rather than flipping through the book multiple times. I do highlight occasionally, but I find that it’s more effective for me to summarize in my own words. How about you? Do you find highlighting helpful, or do you prefer a more structured approach?
