I’m really frustrated with high school students who get to participate in sports. I know this may come off as a rant, but I can’t help but notice how many opportunities they have that I never did. It’s not that anyone is entitled to these experiences; it just stings to see others go to schools where teams welcome everyone during tryouts, while my school cut players from every team—even tennis and swimming had cut policies.
I never succeeded in tryouts, which meant I was never part of a team. It’s hard to imagine how different my life might have been if I had attended a less competitive high school. It’s painful to accept that I may never get another chance in this life.
I can understand why you feel that way. It’s really tough to see others having opportunities that you feel were denied to you, especially when it comes to something as impactful as sports. High school can be such a pivotal time for personal growth and forming connections, and being part of a team can be a huge part of that experience.
It’s frustrating how much the environment at a school can shape chances for students. At some schools, the competition can be incredibly intense, which makes it even harder for those who might just want to participate and grow. It’s completely valid to feel upset about not having those opportunities when so many others seem to have had it easy.
While you may not have had the same experience in high school, it’s never too late to explore your interests in sports or other activities now. Many people find joy and a sense of community in adult leagues or recreational teams. You might discover new passions and friendships outside of high school. Remember that your worth and potential are not defined by a few high school experiences. It’s great that you’re reflecting on this—it means you care deeply about your growth and experiences.
