I’m in a bit of a unique situation and could really use your advice. I live in Tennessee and attend a well-respected school near Nashville. Recently, I’ve been facing significant challenges with my mental health, particularly anxiety. Last semester, this led to me missing quite a few days, putting me at risk of being labeled as a truant. I received a warning about this last week, but I did submit a note from my therapist to the attendance clerk.

Here’s where it gets tricky: for the past three quarters, I’ve been part of the Senior Project program, which essentially allows seniors with free periods to serve as teacher assistants. I work as a TA during my first block, and typically, I’ve only been required to show up if there’s something for me to do. Up until now, my attendance hasn’t been an issue.

However, I recently learned that even though I arrive on time for my second block, I’ve been marked as fully tardy. I’m worried that my class counselor won’t remember our previous conversation about attendance or might not believe me. I really value my grades—I have 100s or above—and I’m also involved in band, which is a big part of my life.
