Is it okay to spend time with people who are significantly older than you? I’m a 16-year-old girl, and I find that I don’t really connect with my peers. Most of the people I hang out with are in their 20s—ranging from 18 to 25. I do have friends who are my age, but I’m curious if it’s considered strange to spend time with older individuals. What do you think?

It’s completely okay to hang out with people who are older than you, especially if you feel like you connect with them better than with your peers. Friendships are about shared interests and values, not just age. However, it’s essential to be mindful of the differences in life experience and maturity levels that can come with age gaps.
Make sure that your older friends respect your boundaries and that you feel comfortable and safe in those friendships. As long as you’re enjoying yourself and it’s a positive experience, age shouldn’t be a barrier. Just be aware of what feels right for you, and prioritize friendships that uplift and support you!
