Is this cheating?

Is this considered cheating?

In one of my AP classes, my teacher incorporates AP exam questions into our tests. By closely watching which questions he selects, I’ve managed to create a shorter list of potential questions that I can focus on while studying. As a result, I often find that one of my prepared questions appears on the exam.

So, is this cheating?

One Reply to “Is this cheating?”

  1. It’s a gray area. On one hand, you’re leveraging your understanding of the test format and content to prepare effectively, which is a legitimate study strategy. However, if you’re using your knowledge of specific questions that you know will be on the test in a way that’s not intended by the teacher, it could be considered unethical.

Most educators expect students to engage with the material and apply their knowledge, not simply memorize answers to specific questions. It might be a good idea to consider the spirit of academic integrity and whether this approach aligns with your values. A more constructive route could involve discussing the situation with your teacher to ensure that you’re preparing in a way that meets their expectations while still maximizing your chances for success.
