Is this petty?

Am I being petty here?

I’m a junior in high school and I need some perspective. I’m currently working on a group project with two girls who have a reputation for not contributing in any of their classes—seriously, it’s a mystery how they manage to stay on track to graduate. Just to clarify, this project is not difficult at all! I’ve reached out multiple times asking them to help out or at least contribute something, but their response has been to either scroll through their phones, hang out in the bathroom smoking, or even watch baby monkeys online (no joke).

Today, they criticized the color scheme I chose and said, “This is what’s going to boost my grade, so it has to be good.”

I just submitted the project and I’m contemplating whether it’s too petty to email my teacher and highlight the parts I completed—over 95%—since they didn’t do anything at all. I really don’t want them to get credit for work they didn’t contribute to while I did all the heavy lifting. What do you think?

One Reply to “Is this petty?”

  1. It’s understandable to feel frustrated in this situation, especially when you’ve put in so much effort while your group members haven’t contributed. However, emailing your teacher to highlight your contributions could be seen as a bit petty, especially if it feels like you’re trying to get them in trouble rather than simply ensuring that the grade reflects the work done.

Instead, consider discussing the situation with your teacher in a more constructive way. You can mention the challenges you faced with your group and express your concern about how their lack of participation might affect your grade. This approach allows your teacher to understand the context without coming across as vindictive.

Ultimately, focus on your own work and make sure to communicate openly with your teacher about the group dynamics. That way, you can ensure that your efforts are recognized without resorting to naming names. Good luck!

Hey everyone, am I losing it? So here’s the deal: I was taking the PSAT and I honestly don’t know what was up with the super long breaks between the modules. I had to sit around for 45 minutes just to submit my answers, followed by another 15-minute wait for a break. I was seriously […]

Substitute

Substitute Teacher Experience Back in my sophomore year, we had this substitute who was probably in his early 30s. He was hands down the best substitute I’ve ever had because he was genuinely nice. One day, I walked up to him with what I thought was a silly question, and before I could even finish, […]
