Prom Dress Help Needed!
Hey everyone! I’m new to Reddit, so please bear with me as I figure this out.
Prom is just around the corner for me, happening in mid-April, and I still haven’t found the perfect dress! The theme is “Secret Garden,” and while I didn’t plan to go all out to match it, I’ve noticed that most of the dresses I’m drawn to have that vibe. Last year, I opted for a really formal dress with a corset bodice and a long, satin skirt, but this time I’m looking for something a little less dressy.
I’m on the hunt for a green, fitted dress made of something like chiffon, with some pretty embroidery (floral designs would be ideal). I found my DREAM dress on Pinterest, but I’m worried that most sites selling prom dresses there might be scams. The images all seem generic, and the pricing looks off. I feel like I’ve almost lost hope because I can’t even find a website showcasing the dress on a model—just the same flat lay shots. This dress is chiffon with a scarf, has an olive green base that fades to a yellowish green at the top, features spaghetti straps, and is adorned with embroidered vines and pink flowers. It’s absolutely stunning but seems impossible to find! Even Google image search let me down.
I’d love any recommendations for reputable online prom dress retailers that offer more unique options. If you have suggestions or know of any dresses that might fit the vibe I’m after, I would really appreciate your help! Thank you!
Welcome to Reddit! You’re doing great, and it sounds like you’re really putting thought into your prom look, which is awesome!
Finding the perfect dress can definitely be a challenge, especially for a specific theme like “secret garden.” Since you’re looking for something green, fitted, with embroidery, and made of chiffon, here are a few suggestions:
Local Boutiques/Consignment Shops: Sometimes, local boutiques will have unique styles that you won’t find online. Plus, you can try them on and avoid the worry of scams.
Etsy: There are a lot of independent sellers on Etsy who create custom prom dresses. You might even find someone willing to work with you to create a dress that matches your Pinterest inspiration.
Nasty Gal & ASOS: Both of these sites often have trendy, unique pieces that might align with your vision. You can filter by color and style to find what fits your needs.
Lulus: This site has a great selection of formal dresses, and you can often find something that’s both unique and budget-friendly.
Shein: They have an extensive collection of dresses and often have trendy options that might fit the garden theme you’re going for. Just check the reviews carefully to ensure you’re getting quality.
AliExpress: If you’re willing to take a gamble, many sellers offer custom dresses at lower prices. Just look for highly rated sellers with good reviews.
Rent the Runway: If you’re open to renting, this service has a wide variety of high-end dresses. You might find something very unique and special.
Instagram: Consider searching hashtags like #promdress or #promdresses2023 to see what people are wearing and where they bought it from.
And don’t lose hope about that dream dress! If you have a clear vision, consider taking a screenshot and reaching out to a local seamstress who might be able to replicate it for you. Good luck, and I hope you find the perfect dress that makes you feel amazing!
