Scholarship

Scholarship Inquiry

I’m curious about the relationship between military benefits and scholarships, and I’m not sure if it varies by school. I’m using military benefits to fully cover my tuition, but since I’ve also been awarded a scholarship, I’m wondering what happens to that scholarship money. Does it get converted into leftover funds, or does it depend on the specific policies of each school?

  1. Scholarship policies can vary significantly from school to school, but generally speaking, if you’re using military benefits that cover your tuition in full, the scholarship may not provide additional funds directly for tuition. Here’s how it typically works:

    1. Tuition Coverage: Since your military benefits cover your tuition entirely, that part of the scholarship may not be applicable. Many schools will reduce the scholarship amount or adjust how they apply it based on your tuition being fully covered.

    2. Refunds or Stipends: Depending on the school’s policy, any leftover scholarship funds after tuition coverage may sometimes be disbursed to you as a refund check, which you can then use for other expenses like books or living costs. However, this is not guaranteed.

    3. Consult Financial Aid Office: The best course of action is to contact your school’s financial aid office directly. They can provide specific details on how your scholarship will be applied in conjunction with your military benefits and whether you’ll receive any remaining funds.

It’s always good to clarify these things early on to ensure you understand your financial situation fully!
