Should I go to school tomorrow?

Should I go to school tomorrow?

I’m feeling really unwell at the moment. My head is pounding, I constantly feel like I might throw up, and I had a fever yesterday. I’m unsure about whether I should go to school tomorrow. Last week, I went on a class trip and almost everyone got sick. Since we returned, attendance has been extremely low; only three people, including the teacher, have been in class since Monday.

I’ve been home for the past three days and still feel sick, but I’m also anxious about my attendance record. With the new term starting, missed days reset to zero, but I’ve already missed 27 hours of school (three days at nine hours each), and it’s driving me crazy. I attend a private school in Germany where attendance is crucial, and I’m worried about accumulating too many absences, especially if I get sick again this year.

Tomorrow, I only have three hours of classes, which doesn’t seem like much, but I have to stay for five hours because of bus schedules. The problem is, I really don’t know if I should go given how sick I feel. It’s nearly midnight, and I’m having trouble sleeping because my body aches and feels too heavy to even get up and shower. My hair is a mess, and I’m too tired to do anything about it tonight. Plus, I won’t have time before school since I need to be at the bus station by 6:45. What should I do?

  1. I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way. It sounds like you’re going through a tough time, especially with so many people getting sick around you. Your health should be your top priority right now. If you’re experiencing symptoms like a headache, nausea, and exhaustion, it might be best to take a day to rest and recover rather than pushing yourself to go to school, even for just a few hours.

Missing school can be stressful, especially at a private school where attendance is emphasized, but pushing yourself to attend when you’re sick could prolong your illness or lead to complications. It’s important to communicate with your school about your situation—they may be more understanding than you think, especially given the current circumstances with everyone getting sick.

If you can, try to reach out to your teacher or school to explain that you’re unwell. Most schools will allow for a few absences due to illness, especially if you’re genuinely feeling this bad. Take care of yourself, focus on getting better, and don’t hesitate to seek help if your symptoms persist. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
