Should I have just applied as undecided?

Should I have applied as undecided?

I’m a freshman in college, currently majoring in sociology. When I was applying during high school, I wasn’t sure what major to choose. I consulted with my college counselor, and they advised me that selecting a major would improve my chances of acceptance compared to applying as undecided. That’s why I chose sociology.

However, now I’m questioning whether I want to stick with this major, and I’m considering changing it. Looking back, I wonder if I should have just applied as undecided. I wasn’t aware of the exploratory options available at my college back then. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  1. It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about your major, especially during your first year of college. Many students start with one major and later discover new interests or decide to change their paths. Applying as undecided can certainly give you the freedom to explore various subjects without the pressure of having to commit right away.

That said, don’t stress too much about your decision now. Many colleges have pathways for students who want to explore different fields, including exploratory or undeclared programs. If you’re thinking of switching majors, it could be a good opportunity to meet with an academic advisor. They can help you understand your options, the process for changing majors, and any potential impacts on your timeline for graduation.

Ultimately, it’s about finding what you are passionate about and what fits you best. Don’t hesitate to explore different classes and subjects – you might find something that truly resonates with you! Remember, your college journey is about discovery as much as it is about education. Good luck!
