should i keep my notebooks?

Should I keep my notebooks?

I graduated three years ago and still have most of my college notebooks. I work in my field of study and am contemplating pursuing a master’s in a different but related area. I’ve never pulled out my notebooks for reference, so they’re clearly not very useful. However, it feels difficult to part with 4.5 years of hard work that I invested a lot of money into. On the other hand, I live in a tiny studio apartment, so I could definitely use the extra space.

What do you think I should do? Do any of you hang onto your old notebooks?

Edit: Thank you for all the advice! I’ve decided to start digitizing my notes bit by bit using a scanner at the university library that’s meant for books and chapters. For now, I think I will keep the physical notebooks (shuffling things around in my apartment), but I’ll feel more at ease about letting them go once I have them backed up.

  1. It sounds like you’ve put a lot of thought into this! Digitizing your notebooks is a great compromise—this way, you can preserve the information without taking up physical space. Plus, having a digital backup might ease your mind about letting go of the physical copies later on. It’s understandable to feel sentimental about your college work, especially since it represents so much effort and investment. Holding onto the physical notebooks for now while you transition sounds like a good plan, and you can always reassess later on once you’ve digitized the most important content. Good luck with your scanning and your potential master’s pursuit!
