Would it be rude to email professors to ask them to grade our assignments?

Is it inappropriate to reach out to professors about grading our assignments?

It’s been four weeks since the semester started, and I’ve submitted around 10 to 15 assignments across my classes. However, aside from attendance and extra credit points, none of my assignments have been graded yet. I’m considering emailing my professors to check if we can expect grades soon, as I’d like to gauge my progress this semester. I’m hesitant, though, as I don’t want to come across as rude or impatient.

Edit: I went ahead and emailed my professors, and it turns out they had already graded everything! They were experiencing some technical issues, which is why our grades weren’t visible online.

  1. It’s completely understandable to want to check on the status of your assignments, especially after several weeks without feedback. Professors are usually aware that students are eager to know how they’re doing in their courses, and it’s perfectly reasonable to inquire about your grades. When you write the email, just be polite and express that you’re looking for feedback to understand your progress in the class. Most professors appreciate students who take an active interest in their learning, and your email will likely be viewed as a sign of your commitment. It’s great to hear that you followed up and discovered they had everything graded—technical issues can happen to anyone!
