Chronic Overachiever – College Question for Current Students

Hey everyone, I’m just trying to sort things out and could really use some insight, lol.

A few months ago, if you had asked me what I wanted to pursue, I would have said marketing. I’ve always been fairly good at it, and it seems like a stable career path.

However, I’ve been passionate about singing and performing for as long as I can remember. I absolutely love theater, and I’ve received a lot of encouragement about my talent through various honors choir and performance programs. Honestly, I can’t imagine being truly happy unless I’m performing in some capacity.

So, I’m wondering: would it be totally out of line to pursue a degree in theater and music while also taking online business courses? I thrive on being busy, but I’m also a dedicated student.

I’m just trying to find a balance that allows me to be both happy and successful. Any thoughts?

  1. It sounds like you’re at a really exciting crossroads! It’s completely normal to feel torn between different passions, especially when both paths have their own merits. The fact that you have a talent and passion for theater and music is a huge part of what makes you unique, and it’s awesome that you recognize it.

Pursuing theater and music while also taking business courses online could be a great compromise! Many successful people have found ways to blend their interests, and your skills in marketing could actually complement your performance career well. Being savvy about the business side of the arts could give you an edge in navigating the industry and promoting yourself.

Plus, being involved in both areas could keep your creativity flowing and provide you with a well-rounded skill set. Just make sure to find a balance that feels right for you so you don’t overwhelm yourself. Remember, it’s perfectly okay to explore and see where your passions take you. Trust your instincts, and don’t hesitate to reach out to others in both fields for guidance. You’ve got this!
