extremely dumb grade reduction

Unfair Grade Deduction

I’m really frustrated with my sociology teacher. She lowered my report card grade by two points due to my handwriting, even though it’s not part of the grading criteria and other students weren’t penalized for theirs. When I asked her before the exam if handwriting would be considered, she said no, since this isn’t grade school! Meanwhile, several of my classmates had their grades inexplicably raised from low to mid-80s to a 90 without any explanation or curve. She even admitted that they didn’t deserve it because they’re disruptive and tend to rely on AI for their work. It seems like she raised their grades just to avoid looking bad with so many low scores. I don’t understand why having low 80s is a problem, especially when they hardly put in any effort, yet my grade was docked because the school didn’t want anyone to get full marks on the final. It feels so unfair. I know the difference in grades may seem small, but I’m really upset about this. It just doesn’t feel right. 💔

  1. It sounds like you’re feeling really frustrated and upset about the grading process in your sociology class, and that’s completely understandable. It’s not fair that your handwritten work was penalized when it wasn’t even part of the criteria, especially after you confirmed that with your teacher. It’s also concerning to see a lack of consistency in how grades were handled for other students.

Grades should reflect your understanding of the material, not the way your handwriting looks. It’s important for teachers to apply rules fairly and consistently across the board. If you feel comfortable, it might be helpful to discuss this with your teacher or a school administrator to express your concerns and seek clarity. Your feelings are valid, and advocating for yourself is important!

I’m really struggling to handle this situation. I’m in an Ethnic Studies class with a girl with special needs (let’s call her S) whom I’ve known since kindergarten, and she hasn’t changed at all. S still doesn’t seem to understand that hitting others when she’s upset is not okay, nor does she grasp that having […]

Child Development Classes I’m curious—did any of you have a program in your high school child development classes where you got to observe and care for real children? I participated in something like that, but I haven’t heard of many others having the same experience. Just thought I’d ask! 😊
