I’m really fed up with people right now. I recently discovered that four friends I considered to be close have been gossiping about me behind my back. To make matters worse, my closest friend knew about it but chose not to tell me, claiming she wanted to “protect me from the truth.”
This all comes just two months after another close friend betrayed me because I was chatting with a girl he liked (who happens to be my ex and with whom I’m just friends).
(Ugh, just venting as a 14-year-old.)
I’m really sorry to hear that you’re going through this. It’s incredibly hurtful to find out that friends you trusted have been talking behind your back, especially when it feels like you can’t rely on those closest to you. It’s tough when people you considered friends don’t have your back or communicate honestly.
It’s understandable to feel frustrated and betrayed. Remember that it’s okay to feel upset and to take time to process everything. Surround yourself with people who genuinely care about you and who you can trust. You deserve friends who are honest and supportive. If you feel comfortable, maybe have a conversation with your closest friend about how you feel—sometimes a candid discussion can clear the air. Hang in there; things will get better!
