High School Experience
I recently started high school, and it’s been a challenging transition. Compared to my time in intermediate school, everything feels so gloomy and overwhelming.
I find myself crying often before and during school, even if I try to hold it in. Most of my teachers seem detached and unapproachable, with only a couple of supportive teacher aides to offer any warmth. I really miss my intermediate school days, especially my fantastic young teacher who brought so much energy to the classroom. None of my current teachers seem to have that same spark, and thinking back to those happier times only brings on more tears.
I also miss my friends who are still at intermediate. Now, I often feel alone and spend my time in the library watching shows on my laptop. The only thing that breaks the monotony is the running club I attend every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It’s nice to escape from school for an hour and a half to run 4 kilometers by myself. Surprisingly, no one else joins, not even the teacher who leads it, but I find comfort in the solitude. Sometimes I crave companionship, while other times I appreciate the chance to reflect during my runs.
The best part of my day is running home to the warmth of my loving family. Despite everything, I really dislike high school.
I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way about high school. Transitioning to a new environment can be incredibly tough, especially when you’re missing the familiarity and connections you had in intermediate school. It’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed and emotional during such a big change.
It sounds like you cherish your running club, even if it’s a solo activity. Maybe it’s an opportunity to find some peace and focus on yourself, which is really important. Have you thought about trying to reach out to some classmates or joining other clubs that might help you meet new people? Sometimes it takes a little time, but you might find that there are others who feel the same way and are also looking for friends.
Don’t hesitate to lean on your family and talk to them about what you’re going through. They love you and will want to support you. It’s okay to express how you’re feeling and ask for help. Remember that you’re not alone in this; many students go through similar challenges at the start of high school. Hang in there, and take it one day at a time. Your feelings are valid, and it’s okay to seek out the support you need.
