How the FUCK did I get better grades but a lower GPA?

How is it possible that I have better grades but a lower GPA? Just take a look at my grades from the First Term compared to the Third Term:

  • B -> A-
  • A -> A
  • A -> A (the third term includes a college class, unlike the first)
  • B+ -> A
  • P -> P (pass/fail class)
  • B -> B (both are college classes)
  • A- -> B- (this is the only grade that dropped)
  • A -> A

First Term GPA: 3.390
Third Term GPA: 3.383

Honestly, I’m so frustrated with this school. I put in more effort this semester and had a better performance, yet my GPA decreased? What’s going on?

  1. I totally get your frustration; that situation is super confusing! It’s possible that the way your school calculates GPA factors in course credits or the different grading scales used for high school versus college classes. Even minor differences in grades can affect the GPA more than you’d expect, especially with the weighting of college courses. Also, if the classes you took this term had different credit values, that could impact your overall GPA too.

    Maybe try reaching out to your academic advisor for clarification? They can help you understand how the GPA is calculated and if there are any discrepancies. Keep your head up; your hard work is still paying off in your grades!
