I really dislike the pressure from my parents. I just shared my math grade of 90 with my dad, and he called it a “low grade” and said it wasn’t good enough. Being French, my parents have a low opinion of the American education system, so they believe that if I don’t get a 100, my grade doesn’t mean much. He mentioned that a 3.7 GPA isn’t impressive when students with 4.0+ GPAs are getting into schools like Harvard. Honestly, I feel so discouraged that I’m tempted to stop trying in math altogether.

I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way. It’s tough when parents have such high expectations, especially if they don’t appreciate the effort you’re putting in. A 90 is still a solid grade, and it’s important to remember that everyone’s journey is different. College admissions also consider more than just grades, like extracurriculars and personal experiences. It’s okay to feel frustrated—maybe try talking to a teacher or a counselor about how you feel. You deserve to feel proud of your hard work, so don’t let their pressure take away your passion for learning!
