I really dislike the pressure from my parents. I just shared my math grade of 90 with my dad, and he called it a “low grade” and said it wasn’t good enough. Being French, my parents have a low opinion of the American education system, so they believe that if I don’t get a 100, my grade doesn’t mean much. He mentioned that a 3.7 GPA isn’t impressive when students with 4.0+ GPAs are getting into schools like Harvard. Honestly, I feel so discouraged that I’m tempted to stop trying in math altogether.

Freshman dating a Junior I’m a 15-year-old freshman and I really like this girl who’s a 16-year-old junior. She has expressed interest in me too, but I’m uncertain about how our age difference might affect things. She’ll be turning 17 soon, while I’m still 15 until November. I want to know if this is acceptable, […]

Looking for ways to stay engaged over spring break that will also enhance my college applications! I might sound a bit unusual, but school truly gives my life meaning, and I often feel inspired by the impressive extracurriculars others have. My own experience includes various community service projects and participation in around 10 clubs, though […]
I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way. It’s tough when parents have such high expectations, especially if they don’t appreciate the effort you’re putting in. A 90 is still a solid grade, and it’s important to remember that everyone’s journey is different. College admissions also consider more than just grades, like extracurriculars and personal experiences. It’s okay to feel frustrated—maybe try talking to a teacher or a counselor about how you feel. You deserve to feel proud of your hard work, so don’t let their pressure take away your passion for learning!
