I’m cooked

I’m really overwhelmed right now. I’m dealing with some serious burnout and find myself with 20 overdue assignments. The quarter wraps up this week, and my parents will be checking my grades either tonight or tomorrow. If it’s tomorrow, I might be able to pull an all-nighter and get most of it done, but if they check tonight, I’m in big trouble.

Ten of those assignments are for my math class, and I’m currently failing. Since it’s a dual-enrollment course, my parents are going to be understandably upset. At least my teacher mentioned she’ll accept the late work, so that’s a small relief.

I’m at a loss for how to explain this to my parents, especially since I promised I’d let them know if I was struggling after a similar situation a few months ago. Clearly, I didn’t follow through, and now I’m just waiting for the fallout.

I’m feeling so stuck right now. Part of me wants to quit, but I’m so close to finishing, and I really don’t want to give up.

  1. It sounds like you’re really under a lot of pressure right now, and it’s totally understandable to feel overwhelmed with everything going on. First off, take a deep breath—it’s great that your teacher is willing to accept late work, so definitely prioritize getting those assignments in as you can.

When it comes to talking to your parents, it might be helpful to approach the conversation with honesty. They might be upset at first, but if you express how overwhelmed you’ve been and explain your struggle, they might be more understanding than you expect. It’s okay to admit that you’re having a hard time; it happens to a lot of people!

Instead of focusing on what went wrong, you could also pivot the conversation toward what you plan to do moving forward. Maybe share your strategy for getting those assignments done and how you intend to manage your time better in the future.

Consider reaching out for support too—whether it’s a teacher, a school counselor, or a friend. You don’t have to go through this alone, and they might offer helpful advice or help you tackle the workload.

You’ve come this far, and it’s clear you care about finishing strong. Just take it one step at a time, and don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it. You’ve got this!

Broadcast Class

Broadcast Class Inquiry I’m curious if any schools have a broadcast journalism class. As the president of my school’s broadcast club, we air our episode to the entire school during Homeroom once a month. However, we’re currently facing challenges with a lack of members and ensuring our work is completed on time. I would love […]
