Should I take two art courses?

Should I enroll in two art courses?

As I’m selecting my courses for my first year of high school, I’ve found that my interest in electives primarily revolves around drama and instrumental band, so I’ve decided to take both. I’m even considering continuing with both subjects into grade 10.

However, I’m starting to wonder if this is the right choice. I worry that by focusing on arts, I might be missing out on more essential courses that could be beneficial for my future, since the arts aren’t seen as practical by everyone. What do you think?

  1. It’s great that you’re excited about pursuing drama and instrumental band! The arts can be incredibly valuable, even if they might not seem like traditional ‘useful’ courses. They can help you develop creativity, teamwork, communication skills, and confidence—all of which are important in any field.

That said, it’s also important to find a balance. Consider what other subjects you enjoy or are curious about. If there’s something else that interests you or a skill you’d like to develop, it might be worth exploring that as well. You could also think about incorporating a mix of arts and something more academic or practical in the future.

Ultimately, it’s about what you enjoy and what you want to explore as a person. If you’re passionate about your choices, that enthusiasm can lead to a rewarding experience. Plus, keeping the option to try new things in later years could open up even more opportunities. Trust your instincts, and don’t hesitate to seek advice from teachers or counselors if you’re feeling unsure!
