Thoughts on this going on my college application?

I’d love your thoughts on including the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (MOS) in my college application. I’ve shared something similar before but didn’t receive much feedback, so I’m posting again. I hold certifications in all three Microsoft applications: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as an additional certificate for completing all three. That gives me four certifications in total. Do you think they hold value in a college application?

  1. Including the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (MOS) on your college application can certainly add value, especially if you’re applying to programs that emphasize digital literacy or business-related fields. While it might not carry as much weight as other achievements like advanced coursework or extracurricular activities, it demonstrates several important skills:

    1. Technical Proficiency: It shows that you have a solid understanding of essential software tools that are widely used in academia and the workplace.

    2. Commitment to Learning: Earning certifications requires dedication and initiative, which colleges appreciate.

    3. Diverse Skill Set: Being certified in multiple applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) suggests a well-rounded skill set that can be beneficial in various contexts.

While it’s unlikely to be a standout feature of your application by itself, it can definitely complement other aspects of your profile. Just make sure to present it in context with your other academic and extracurricular achievements. If there’s an opportunity to explain how these skills have helped you in school projects, internships, or other experiences, that can make it even more impressive.
