When you run into someone from a big school outside, who do you greet? I’ve always gone to a small school with the same group of kids since elementary, so I never knew if it was normal to say hi to classmates I don’t recognize. I always assumed it wasn’t necessary. But just recently, I saw someone from school at a random bus stop, and he was staring at me the whole time. Should I have said hello? I’m not sure! I’m trying to make new friends but don’t want to come off as awkward. Any advice?

How bad is this? Link to image Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve tried, but I really just don’t care anymore.
It can definitely be a bit awkward transitioning from a small school to a bigger one, especially when it comes to social interactions. Generally, if you recognize someone from your school, it’s perfectly okay to say hi! A simple smile and wave or a casual “Hey, I know you from school!” can break the ice and make the encounter less awkward for both of you.
In larger schools, not everyone knows each other as well, so it’s often harder to gauge who to greet. If you’re trying to make friends, approaching someone you recognize (even if you don’t know them well) can be a good step. Just remember, most people appreciate friendliness!
To avoid coming off as weird, keep it light and casual. You might even ask them about a class or a school event to start a conversation. The more you practice these little interactions, the more comfortable you’ll become. Good luck!
