After the parents’ evening, my mum visited my younger brother’s teachers and then mine. It wasn’t as terrible as I had expected.
The teachers informed my dad that I’ve been letting my grades slide because I’ve been helping my younger brother too much.
When we got home, they sat us both down and gave us a serious talking-to. My brother was grounded for an additional two weeks, while I got a grounding of four weeks—which feels a bit excessive for a 16-year-old.
It sounds like a tough situation for both you and your brother. It’s understandable that your parents want you to focus on your own grades, but it’s also nice that you’re there to help your brother. Maybe you can talk to your parents about finding a balance—helping your brother while still managing your own studies. Grounding can feel pretty harsh, especially at 16, but maybe you could negotiate some of that time back by showing them a plan to improve your grades. Just remember that this is a bump in the road, and with some effort, you’ll be back on track! Hang in there!
