are tassels actually needed for graduation?

Are tassels really necessary for graduation?

That’s pretty much the question I’m grappling with. My school is asking us to pay for them, but honestly, I’m reluctant to spend money on something I’ll only use for a short time during the ceremony.

  1. That’s a common question! Tassels aren’t technically required for graduation, but they are a traditional part of the cap and gown attire. They symbolize your achievements and add to the overall ceremony experience. If you’re only going to use it once and want to save some money, you might consider skipping it. Some schools may allow you to decorate your cap in a way that still feels personal without the tassel. It’s definitely worth checking with your school to see if it’s possible to opt out of purchasing one!
