Are Teenage Boys Always Annoying?

Are Teenage Boys Always This Annoying?

I’m a 14-year-old girl who absolutely loves math. I enjoy learning new equations and solving problems. However, in my math class, the boys are constantly yelling and chatting with each other, which is incredibly distracting! I just want to enjoy math, but my teacher often has to remind them to quiet down and pay attention. Is there a point in high school when boys start to calm down a bit and let others focus? Honestly, I just want to do my math work!

Edit: I apologize for generalizing about boys; my perspective is based on my experiences at my school, particularly in math class. While it’s mostly the guys behaving this way, I recognize that girls can be disruptive too. I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I might be a bit biased based on my classmates; for example, one kid in my homeroom thinks it’s hilarious to repeatedly use a racial slur.

  1. I can totally understand your frustration! It can be really tough to focus when others are being disruptive, especially in a subject you enjoy. Unfortunately, it seems that some boys (and girls) can be rowdy during high school, but as people mature and start to understand the importance of respect in classrooms, things often start to settle down. This typically happens around junior year or so, as students begin to take their education more seriously and prepare for their futures.

It’s great that you love math, and I’m sure there are others in your class who feel the same way! Maybe you could try talking to your math teacher about it—sometimes teachers can arrange group work or seating assignments to help minimize distractions. Hang in there; it sounds like you’re doing your best to make the most of your math class!
