Bad haircut problem

Subject: Dealing with a Bad Haircut

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share something I’ve been struggling with. I’m a senior in high school and recently got what might be the worst haircut of my life. It’s not just a matter of personal preference—my barber pushed my hairline back, which is especially noticeable for me as an African American with a low cut.

The only fix I can think of is to wear a durag, similar to what another student used to do. However, I’m not sure if that’s allowed at school. I could really use some advice or any tips on how to handle this situation.

Thanks for your help!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your haircut situation; that can definitely be tough, especially when it feels so noticeable. Wearing a durag can be a good way to give your hair some time to grow back, and it might also help you feel more confident in the meantime.

For your school, you could present it as part of maintaining your hair health or protecting your hair while it grows out. You might want to explain that it’s a traditional practice in the African American community for hair care, and it can help promote a healthy scalp and hair growth.

You could also check your school’s dress code policy to see if there’s any mention of head coverings; if there isn’t, that might strengthen your case for wearing the durag. If you’re concerned about how to approach it, consider talking to a teacher or counselor you trust. They might be able to advocate for you or give you further advice on how to navigate the situation.

In the meantime, try to remind yourself that hair does grow back, and this rough patch is temporary. Hang in there!
