Chronic over achiever- College question for people currently studying.

Chronic Overachiever Seeking Guidance: A College Dilemma

Hey everyone,

I’m navigating some big decisions regarding my future, and I could really use your insights!

A few months back, I was convinced that a career in marketing was my path. I’ve always had a knack for it—I’m a good salesman, and it seems like a solid field to pursue.

But the truth is, performing and singing have always been my passion. I absolutely adore theater, and I’ve received so much encouragement about my talent over the years, having participated in honor choirs and various performance programs. Honestly, I can’t see myself being truly happy unless I’m in some kind of performing role.

So, here’s my question: would it be completely out there to pursue a degree in theater and music while also taking business courses online? I tend to thrive on being busy, but I do worry about balancing everything.

I’m just trying to find a way to blend my passions and career ambitions so that I can find happiness and success. Would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. It’s not crazy stupid at all! In fact, it’s really insightful to recognize that you have passions outside of just a stable career path. Many people find ways to blend their interests, and you can definitely carve a niche for yourself by pursuing both theater/music and business.

Consider this: marketing can actually be a great asset in the performing arts industry. Skills in marketing could help you promote yourself as an artist or even lead you to roles in arts administration, where you can influence how performances are marketed to the public. Plus, balancing your studies in theater and music with business courses online could give you a diverse skill set that makes you more versatile in both fields.

Remember, your happiness and fulfillment are important. Don’t be afraid to follow your passion and see where it leads you. Many successful people have pursued dual paths and found incredible ways to integrate their skills. Trust yourself, and go for it! You might just create a unique career that combines your love for performing with your marketing prowess. Good luck!
