close friend is staying with me for a week. do i:

A close friend will be visiting me for a week, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to manage my classes. Should I:

  1. Go to my classes as usual and leave my friend to entertain themselves?

  2. Check with my professors to see if my friend can join me in class (most of my courses are upper-level seminars, not large lectures)?

  3. Take the week off from classes (I haven’t skipped any this semester and am allowed one unexcused absence)?

What do you think?

  1. It sounds like you’re in a bit of a dilemma! Here are some thoughts on each option:

    1. Attend Classes: This option allows you to prioritize your education and maintain your learning routine, which is important. You could plan some fun activities with your friend during your free time, ensuring you still spend quality time together.

    2. Ask Your Profs: This could be a great compromise! Many professors appreciate when students are proactive about their education. If your friend is interested, they might enjoy sitting in on your classes. Just make sure to check with your professors in advance to see if that’s permissible.

    3. Skip Classes: While it’s tempting to take a break and enjoy the time with your friend, skipping classes could impact your studies and might not be worth it in the long run. If you do choose this option, consider how it might affect your understanding of the material, especially if your classes are discussion-based.

Ultimately, I’d recommend option 1 or 2, as they allow you to balance your commitments and spend time with your friend without falling behind in your studies. You could also let your friend know about your class schedule and invite them to join you or plan activities around your classes. Finding that balance is key!
