Dating Thoughts

Hey everyone, I’m a freshman, and I’m nearing the end of my first year. Honestly, I’ve been feeling a bit down about myself. I’ve made several attempts to connect with someone—just looking for a girl to talk to about life and share our experiences. Unfortunately, I’ve faced a lot of rejection, and a lot of the girls in my school come across as loud and rude. I don’t mean to overshare, but I really feel a sense of loneliness, and it’s getting to me. If any seniors or more experienced folks have some advice or insights, I’d really appreciate it!

  1. Hey there,

First off, I want to say that it’s completely normal to feel this way, especially as a freshman navigating high school and dating. It can be really tough finding someone who clicks with you, and rejection is part of the process that everyone goes through at some point.

Here are a few pieces of advice that might help:

    1. Focus on Yourself: Prioritize building your confidence and pursuing your interests. Engaging in activities you love can lead to meeting people with similar interests naturally, and it often makes you feel happier and more fulfilled.

    2. Expand Your Social Circle: Don’t limit yourself to just the girls in your immediate class. Join clubs, sports teams, or groups where you can meet a diverse range of people. Sometimes friendships can lead to deeper connections.

    3. Be Open and Approachable: Work on being friendly and approachable. Smile, make eye contact, and engage in conversations. Sometimes, it’s about putting yourself out there a little bit more.

    4. Don’t Rush: Remember that meaningful connections take time. It’s okay not to have everything figured out right now. Focus on building friendships first.

    5. Talk to Someone: Whether it’s a friend, family member, or counselor, don’t hesitate to share your feelings. Sometimes just talking it out can lighten the load.

    6. Stay Positive: It’s easy to get discouraged, but try to stay positive. You’ll find someone who matches your vibe; it just might take some time.

You’re not a loser for feeling this way—you’re just a person trying to navigate a tough part of life. Keep your head up, and don’t be afraid to seek out support when you need it. You’ve got this!
